Holy Paladin Gear List: 3.2.2

This list is intended as a reference for healing paladins who want to know what gear is out there, and where they can obtain it. I included some commentary where I felt it was necessary to elucidate my choices.

There are sure to be items I have overlooked, as this is a fairly patchwork job at the moment and relies heavily on the veracity of the Wowhead item database. Please feel free to point out items that are missing and I will update if they meet the criteria in the guidelines section.

Many of the ToGC(10) ilvl 245 items were not included in wowhead's database at the time of this writing (October 7th 2009), and so they are not yet referenced.


Guidelines
Rankings are based on ilvl, and loosely on the personal biases of the author within ilvl categories. Ilvl ranges from 200 to 272(where available). I have omitted several ilvl200+ pieces in certain cases because there are much more easily obtainable alternatives (e.g. ToC5 loot vs Naxx25).

Items are sorted by slot, ranked descending by ilvl, and reference their location. Only plate gear is included so far, though I am aware there are some very good mail options available.

PvP gear omitted.

Item names for Tier 9 and Trial of the Crusader loot are based on their Alliance models. Since stats are identical and loot is equivalent across factions, horde players shouldnt have any trouble making references.

Thanks for a great list. I don't pay as much attention to loot as I should, so it is very useful to have a straightforward list like this.

I was especially interested in the shield section. I got the vendor shield when I hit 80 and have never had a new shield drop. The shield is especially important to me because it is what I see when I am looking at my character. I was a little disappointed to see that there just don't seem to be a whole lot of shields. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to put up with that purple and gold thing a while longer.

Yeah I keep wearing my Ice Layered Barrier because hardly anyone carries it. Most people have the Bastion of Purity or even more common is the Voice of Reason. Shields and weapons are my favorite upgrades.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40401 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45887 are 2 of the best shields in game IMHO. For players who dont have access to a great guild. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49476 is the best helmet in game.

If you're going for haste/crit/sp shields, Bastion of Purity still beats out Voice of Reason. But yes, if you don't have access to TOC25, then go for Voice of Reason....if you're not burnt out on Naxx25 yet.

Thanks for the full loot list link. Unfortunately it appears wowhead is somewhat behind on the loot. The cloak you found however is listed, but wasn't appearing on my filtered search *eyeroll*. Honestly When 3.3 hits they are Nurfing Divine Sacrifice So I'll be going BACK to my ret build, But keeping my gear the way it is to get the best possible regen scheme.

FWIW, the change to Divine Sacrifice while not retardedly OP (like it is now) is still going to be a powerful raid wide CD, and should likely see more use, as it shouldn't be as dangerous to the paladin casting it.

Sitting at 30% unbuffed holy crit right now, the overheal that I get from the ret build won't help me a whole lot (yes, I know you'll get some more mana back from it), and I like my 1 minute Sacred Shields.

Um...the changes to Divine Sacrifice aren't a nurf.

Most of the time, the iLvl and value to paladins are roughly similar. Major exceptions are trinkets. I rank trinkets very differently depending on whether a fight is Holy Light heavy or Flash of Light heavy. That order looks very out of whack for either since it's based purely on iLvl.

@ Auriane - yes all lists are descending by ilvl. within ilvl ranges (e.g. all necks in the ilvl 226 range) i have sorted them according to my gut feeling about which is best. At the end of the day though, as any one who reads this kind of list should be aware, your choice of items depends entirely on your current gearset and your style of play. I like to keep my haste between 500 - 550, crit ~29% or more unbuffed in my DivSac talent build, and I aim for 250+ while casting unbuffed Mp5. And absolutely trinkets are the hardest to rate, as I mentioned on the header just above the trinket section.

If there is one thing that I'd say DOES push an item higher within its ilvl range, its the presence of a gem-slot. Gem-slot = flexibility, which is awesome.
